Hokas inception dates back only 14 years ago to 2009. You could even inavertidly say thank you to Salomon for Hokas creation, as it was conceived by, Nicolas Mermoud and Jean-Luc Diary, both former ex-Salomon employees.
@hoka has been a brand that specialises in Ultra Marathon / long distance running shoes (50km+), with the mission of creating superior cushioning and having the wearers foot sit somewhat within the midsole creating increased stability and support. Removing the feeling of the floor underneath you and making it easier for your muscles.
It goes without saying, that Hoka has been able to expand there collection far outside the realms of performance, gracing the lifestyle market with obsessive colour ways and collaborations that have been catching eyes world wide. Japan (+ mums & dads) being one of the earliest pioneers of the brand within the lifestyle scape.
This collaboration with the French running brand, and british techwear fashion label, @_j.l_a.l_ . Focuses on both the Hoka Tor Ultra Low and Boot rendition. Both lined with a Gore-Tex membrane. As clearly seen, the Tor is less so a runner, and more so a trail/hiking shoe, with noticeable harder wearing materials, firmer midsole allowing for more stability and Vibram MegaGrip outsoles supplying that much needed traction on those tougher terrains.
Many in-line renditions and collaborations have been made on the Tor. Many of which have left its design unchanged from its bulky aesthetic and panel positioning. Main reason being its well pieced construction, fitting both a tough hiker and stylish wearer for anyone.
The colour way of this particular pair is described by the team at @_j.l_a.l_ as - “Dune - a dusty shade evoking the open plains and deserts found at high altitudes.” - With the design language being clearly visible, its hard not to like the faded stone leather panels and blueish almost lilac mesh beneath the lacing system.
Huge thank you to @_j.l_a.l_ | @jasperlee | @slamjam | @hoka for these bad bois, they haven’t left my feet since their arrival.
